Healthy Koala Populations
Koalas like a stable environment, which means large undisturbed tracts of bushland that contain their food trees. Doctor Stephen Phillips of Biolonk says that for a good stable healthy koala population, there must be a minimum of 180 koalas, and these will require a minimum area of 3600 Hectares, of which about half will be inhabited at any one time. About half of the population needs to be female, and 60% of the females need to be reproducing in any year if the population is to thrive and grow. As a koala population expands, the overall area of the range expands.
