Koala crusader Deborah Tabart believes the State Government is wrong to propose putting a major highway through a known koala habitat in Logan City.

On Save the Koala Day last Friday in Berrinba, Ms Tabart addressed a group of people against the proposed Park Ridge Connector (PRC) road.

She said mapping showed there were koalas on 81ha of land owned by the Rosacrucian Order at 292 Browns Plains Rd, Berrinba, that is under threat from the proposed road.

“If you have a four-lane highway cutting the property completely in half then they’re gone,” she said.

Ms Tabart said residents against the proposed road should be much more demanding of their local politicians for answers about the quality of environmental impact studies.

“This property is koala habitat and koalas are now a Federally listed (vulnerable) species and those (Federal) laws should kick in to action (to protect them on this property),” she said.

Ms Tabart said the Park Ridge Connector road should not be built as it was not needed.
