Australia has more than 700 species of eucalyptus. Of these, koalas can eat only approximately 25 species.
The species that koalas select in one area may be totally different from those that koalas select elsewhere.
Koalas will not use young trees for food. Generally, for a koala to select a tree as food, it must be 7-10 years old with a minimum diameter of 10 centimeters at chest height.
Koala’s usually favour trees that are 20 years old or more.
Koalas spend most of their time in trees.
To get from tree to tree, koalas have to move along the ground.
