Koala Panel A ‘Matter Of Urgency’

AN expert panel to protect koala populations will be established as a “matter of urgency”, despite the fact a report highlighting the need was released nine months ago, Queensland’s Environment Minister Steven Miles says.

The move follows a damning University of Queensland study, commissioned by the Newman LNP Government, analysing data from the Southeast Queensland Koala Monitoring Program between 1996 and 2015.

The report found koalas in Southeast Queensland were particularly vulnerable to habitat loss, disease, car strikes and dog attacks.
