Koalas Learn to Use Wild Life Crossing Faster Than First Thought

July 28, 2016

A recent study published in the journal Wildlife Research has discovered that Koalas are smarter than the average bear.

The study was implemented to test the effectiveness newly installed wildlife crossings specially installed by the Queensland Government between 2010 and 2013.

Koalas are generally tree-dwelling creatures, but are prone to move along the ground in search of new food sources, water and mates. Without wildlife crossing they are at the mercy of whatever traffic is using a road they may need to cross in order to reach their target.

The new wildlife crossings are retrofitted to existing drainage tunnels. Elevated ledges were installed to keep animals using them off of the ground.
